BEOWULF, IN MODERN VERSE WITH AN ESSAY AND PICTURES by Gavin Bone

£9.99

Product description

A hardback book, with tan cloth covering, in used good condition. Internally sound . Stained darker around top and side edge boards.. Spine stained, rubbed top and bottom edges with slight tear to spine. Writing on spine illegible. The free endpapers papers are tan stained. Previous owners's name written in ink on front free paper, 84pp with 7 coloured plates, probably coloured ink. Gavin Bone's motto in all the translation of the epic Anglo-Saxon poem has been the Earl of Roscommon's, 'the genuine sense intelligibly told'. The plot, 3 monster fights, appears poor, but great poetry is not far off. Nearly the whole of the poem describes a space of 3 days. There is a Tree of the Danes or Scyldings and a Tree of the Geats or Wederas, footnotes, and easier spellings of minor names.
