Charles Dickens "Daily News" Memorial Edition - 19 volumes

£70.00

Product description

A set of 19 volumes of the "Daily News" Memorial Edition of Charles Dickens.

Believed to have been printed between 1900 and 1910. Each volume contains a varying number of illustrations.

Each volume has blue cloth covers with gilt writing on the front and spine. For all volumes, there signs of shelf wear and bumping to the corners of covers and spines. The spines are tanned to varying degrees. Internally, there is foxing on the inside of the front and rear covers and to the front and rear free endpapers. The page edges are tanned but internally, the pages are clean and the binding is tight.

Details particular to each volume are:

1. Life of Charles Dickens by John Forster - small tear at the top of the spine.
2. American Notes / Italy / A Child's History of England - very small tear to the top and bottom of the spine.
3. David Copperfield - Of all the volumes, this is the one in the worst condition. The back cover is half-attached. The spine is torn at the bottom with a 1.75" by 1.25" piece missing.
4. Sketches by Boz - Shelf wear to the top of the spine.
5. Bleak House - Small tear at the top of the spine.
6. Martin Chuzzlewit - 0.5" tear at the top and bottom of the spine.
7. Christmas Stories and Others - Bumping to the top and bottom of the spine.
8. Great Expectations / The Commercial Traveller - 1.25" tear at the top of the spine. Small white spot on the front cover.
9. Oliver Twist / Two Cities - Two very small tears to the top of the spine.
10. Edwin Drood / Reprinted Pieces - Shelf wear to the top and bottom of the spine.
11. Barnaby Rudge - Crinkling to the spine. Two micro tears to the bottom of the spine.
12. Old Curiosity Shop - Very small tear to the bottom of the spine.
13. Christmas Books / Hard Times - Bumping to the top and bottom of the spine.
14. The Pickwick Papers - Shelf wear to the top and bottom of the spine.
15. Little Dorrit - Crinkling to the spine.
16. Our Mutual Friend - Shelf wear to the top and bottom of the spine.
17. The Dickens Dictionary - Very small tear to the bottom of the spine.
18. Dombey and Son - Two small tears to the top of the spine.

Given their age, a very collectable set.
