Collections And Recollections

£10.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

These papers appeared in the Manchester Guardian during the year 1897, and are here reproduced by the kind permission of Mr. C. P. Scott, M.P. It has not been thought necessary to alter some phrases which imply that they were published periodically.
The Papers are exactly what the title implies. They consist in part of traditions and anecdotes which the writer has collected from people and books; in part of incidents he personally recollects. With respect to the traditional part, the usual crop of contradictions and disproofs may be anticipated, and may also be disregarded. Except in his own Recollections, the writer does not vouch for accuracy, but only "tells the tale as 'twas told to him." Some of the Links with the Past on which he relied have been snapped by death while the pages were passing through the press.
