Product description

Culture and Environment - The Training of Critical Awareness.
F.R. Leavis and Denys Thompson
Chatto & Windus. London. Ninth edition 1962. pp150.

Jacket is torn at corners and spine, and elsewhere chipped and creased. Bright green boards with gold gilt lettering to spine. Slight fraying to top and bottom of spine. Corners all very good. Library stamp to front endpaper: Burton upon Trent Technical College. Commerce Department and the same at rear paste down.
Bindings all firm and pages all bright and clear; very early signs of tanning. The book is inside is in a very good condition with no marks other than the above.

The book attempts to outline the problems in society regarding how inividual taste preferences are changing as a result of more pressured advertising as well as in the popular press and in films. It also highlights that this is becoming more of a problem since the collapse of the traditional village culture.
It aims to prove that people are being coerced into their reading choices and to go for fashionable texts rather than true literature.

A rare title, suitable for the local debating society or those seeking self help.

Wonder how this unique item ended up online?

Most of the second-hand items you see online have been donated, by supporters like you, to our high street stores. Each item is then priced, photographed and listed on this site by our amazing team of volunteers from across the country.

After you have bought your item, our team of volunteers package and dispatch it from the Shop straight to you or your chosen recipient.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
