Publisher: William Blackwood & Sons, Edinburgh and London, 1878, new edition complete in one volume. Hardback, 612 pages + 24 pages of publisher adverts. Cover, in dark brown cloth boards with gilt titling to spine and black and gilt designs to front is in fair condition for its age with fading to spine, shelfwear to edges, bumping to spine and corners, fraying to spine edges and some splitting along spine cover edges. Internally the book is in fair condition commensurate with age, generally firm and clean with some foxing spots to first few and last few pages (especially to title page tissue guard) and to page block edges. Binding is splitting and loosened at front and rear endpapers but still holding together and overall binding is reasonably secure. Neat pen inscription on half title page dated Chtristmas 1879.
