Emmy Lou - her book and heart

£14.99

Product description

This book is possibly the only one written by this author, and first appeared at the turn of the 20th century (1901). It falls into the category of 'moralising' or 'improving' books for the younger audience, telling of Emmy Lou's youthful experiences all the way from nursery school to her final emergence into 'adult' society.

George Madden Martin was the pen name of Mrs. Attwood R. Martin (1866-1946), who was an early 20th century American fiction writer.

Our copy is in good condition for its age, bound in somewhat grubby green cloth with title (red) and a book motif (dark green) within an impressed square on the front cover, and the title etc in red and dark green lettering on the spine. There is shelf wear to top & bottom of the spine, and all corners are bumped and worn with some loss of the green cloth. The spine is age-darkened. Page tops coloured dark green. Inside, the decorative green endpapers are undamaged (there is a single letter S on the front fep, and the inner side of this has a gift inscription in dark pencil, dated ?1944 or ?1994). A previous owner's name appears on the title page. The binding is generally firm, and all pages are clean and bright. The long and bottom edges are roughcut. The text is enhanced with charming black line drawings by Paul Galdone, a well-known 20th century illustrator of children's books.
