Published in 1899 this is "a comprehensive guide to the comparative cost, durability and characteristics of the many fences available for estate use." It contains twenty chapters on different types of fencing, costs and legal issues and is illustrated by black and white sketches within the text. The appendices include a glossary and there are 15 pages of adverts at the end.
The volume is in a reasonable condition internally with slight foxing to the end papers. A previous owner's name, dated 1901, is written on the title page. There is also a small gold sticker with a previous owner's details on the inside front cover. The book is bound in burgundy cloth with gilt lettering on the front board and spine. The spine and corners show signs of shelf wear and the volume is shelf cocked.
