God: Being an Introduction to the Science of Metabiology - Signed first edition

£70.00

Product description

First edition hardback, Jonathan Cape, 1929. Black cloth, gilt titles.

John Middleton Murry (1889-1957) was a well-known Christian intellectual of his day. He was married to Katherine Mansfield and included D. H. Lawrence and T. S. Eliot amongst his friends.

The book opens with a long autobiographical section introducing the basis of his thought, then goes on to examine evidence. Metabiology is the study of philosophical questions which arise from or relate to biological discoveries and theories but lie beyond the scope of conventional biology.

Signed on the front endpaper: "Middleton Murry, Caerleon: August 1935"

Front endpaper also bears signature of previous owner. No dust jacket. Book is in good condition with minor signs of wear, foxing, and slight cover marks.
