The book has 1149 pages of two-column text plus a 104 page index. The frontispiece picture is 'Ruth and Naomi'.
The book has its covers, however, the front and back covers and the spine are all detached as three separate pieces. The spine is rubbed. It is decorated with gilt lettering and a design, all of which is slightly faded. The front and back covers have a brass edging to the non-spine edges. On the back cover, one of the brass clasps is missing. Both the front and back covers have an embossed design with gilt lettering and a gilt design. The gilt is faded. Both the front and covers are moderately rubbed and slightly frayed along the spine edges. The pages of the book are gilt-edged. There is slight soiling to the inside of the covers and to the front and rear free end papers. There is some tanning to the reverse of the frontispiece. There is light to moderate foxing to the front and rear end papers, to the tissue protecting the frontispiece and to several of the index pages. There is light foxing to some of the main pages. Pages 139 to 142 are slightly loose.
Although the covers and spine are detached, the binding is firm.
