Jack Rabbit Detective or, The Great Pearl Mystery

£19.99

Product description

BURROUGHS, Dorothy
1931 edition Hard back, with coloured dust jacket. 162 x 128 mm; 128 pages.

The book is in good condition. Dust jacket is torn on top of spine and missing section at the bottom of the spine. The dust jacket shows signs of foxing and is scuffed around the edges. The book is very slightly foxed in places including on the edges of the book. The front and rear pasted end papers show some mottling. Front end paper bears small handwritten inscription in ink when book was given as a gift. The back board is slightly detached at the bottom where it attaches to the spine, about a 1cm small tear. Otherwise the internal contents are clean and in good condition.

This is a story for children in which Jack Rabbit, modelling himself on Sherlock Holmes, is called in to trace a pearl necklace stolen from Selina Squirrel. With his friend Dr Watson Mole he sets about the task.

Dorothy Burroughs (1895-1963) was an illustrator, designer and linocut artist. She became well known for her illustrations of animals which appeared in numerous books in the 1920s and 1930s. This is evident in this book with her line drawn illustrations in black and white. These are a delight in themselves and beautifully complement the tale of the search for the missing necklace.
