Meals Medicinal with “Herbal Simples” (of edible parts)

£35.99

Product description

Subtitled 'Curative Foods from the Cook; in place of Drugs from the Chemist'. Much is now made of healthy eating. However this book, written by a doctor in the early twentieth century, sets out to show that appropriate food can supplant “repulsive doses from the Apothecary”. He deals with individual components alphabetically from Absinthe to Yeast and with an index of disorders which may be alleviated by one of his recipes or individual constituents. Fernie wrote a number of books on diet and on the therapeutic properties of crystals

Wright hardback with no DJ. The red cloth covered boards have gilt lettering to front and spine. The spine ends and edges of the boards show some wear and discolouration, the corners are bumped. One owner’s name (dated ’05) on ffep, plus another probably Aug. 1949. Some underlining and vertical marginal lines in the preface but not present in the main text. Binding good.

Loose information leaflet about coffee and some newspaper cuttings regarding oatmeal and weeds are included.

Lots of Print on Demand versions but this is the original.
