The titles continue "of Men Distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in Science, Literature and Art, the Army, Navy, Law, Medicine, Etc. Photographed from Life by Lock and Whitfield, with Brief Biographical Notices by Thompson Cooper, FSA."
Published in 1877 by Sampson Low, Narston, Searle, and Rivington. Second Series. Attractive green cloth binding with gilt decorations and lettering.
A fascinating book containing over 35 photographs of 'men of distinction' from a variety of fields, all photographed by Lock and Whitfield and mounted as an oval with a backing page, together with brief biographic notes by Thompson Cooper. The subjects range from politicians to church men to literature, the arts and the military.
There is an inscription in the front dated 1878.
Unfortunately the binding has come loose and the cover is split internally along the spine strip. However all pages although loose, appear to be complete and are in a reasonable condition.
