A Large book. Slightly odd concatenation of brief biographies. The first 84 pages are “Supplementary Lives”, the first of which is Prince Albert, whose base relief forms the frontispiece. There follow six others. The main body of the work is some 76 lives in chronological order. The authorship is “Full and Original Biographies by Lord Brougham and other distinguished authors” with no further attribution. Similarly the illustrations are “a gallery of portraits from authentic copies“ with no list of artists or origins.

John Sangster publication in hardback with no DJ. It is undated. Red cloth covered boards with bevelled edges. Embossed gilt decoration on the front and to the spine cover. The edges of the boards and the corners show some wear. The front internal hinge is sprung and the frontispiece and adjacent pages are only very tenuously attached. The remainder of the binding is very good. All edges gilt. Five coloured plates and a large number of engravings, some as full page aggregation of heads, some as vignettes and accompanying chapter headings.The full pages have protective paper.
Slight generalised tanning and some foxing to front and back fep.

A very large and heavy book so additional postage costs may be incurred.
