'Police Jiu-Jitsu' McLaglan, Capt.L and Combat without weapons by Capt. Hartley Leather.

£49.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

The first of these pocket-sized highly collectable books is illustrated throughout with 64 b/w photographs of London Metropolitan policeman excercising various jiu-jitsu restraint techniques to be used when apprehending criminals and other ne'er do wells. As such it may one have been used as a practice manual but is now a rare piece of police ephemera from the 1920s. The book asserts that Capt. L. McLaglan was an author and and jiu-jitsu practitioner of the time who trained police forces worldwide in the use of jiu-jitsu in police work.
The book has a gilt illustrated blue cover including the title, author's name and the Rising Sun motif. The book shows some wear and tear in particular to the spine but will still be of major interest to any collector of police memorabilia.
The second book which is slightly larger and in fair condition is also illustrated throughout with b/w photographs of various 'grappling' and self-defence techniques. Published by Gale & Polden and dated to the 1940s as many of these techniques decribed in the book were specifically designed for use by infantry men on the front during the second world war.
