Scott and Scotland (Heath's Picturesque Annual for 1835)

£14.99

Product description

This book is not in good condition and much of the information about it has been obtained from other sources. It is missing its title page and, probably, some additional initial pages. It is one of a series of books exploring various locations and utilising as a connecting theme the location and, here, Walter Scott and the setting for his various works.

Longman Rees et al hardback with no DJ. The binding is in red leather; there is an embossed gilt decoration on the front cover and gilt lettering and decoration to the spine cover. The top and bottom of the spine cover are both considerably worn and there is also wear to the edges and corners of the boards. There is an owner’s name on the reverse of the front cover. There are 21 engravings by George Cattermole, most of which have a transparency protection. The frontispiece of the Great Hall of Craignethan Castle is partially detached. The major and unquantifiable problem with this book is the missing pages. Clearly there must have been a title page and there may been several additional sheets.

This is a potentially valuable little book but here is poor condition and the pricing takes this into account.
