Shameless Exploitation In Pursuit of the Common Good

£135.00

Product description

Easton Press, 2003. Signed first limited edition. pp253.

Luxurious, as-new quality volume, in green leather with gold gilt decorations depicting Newman and Hotchner. Four raised bands to spine. Peach moire fabric paste down and end papers. Immaculate block on archival paper, with lavish gold trim to all edges and gold silk page tape marker. B/w frontispiece illustration of the authors, pounding the life out of some poor vegetables in a pot.

Loose certificate of authenticity, signed by the authors and their witnesses in 2004 (Hotchner dated his signature 2040, by accident or design). The edition was limited to 1350, of which this is number 225. Also a loose card telling the story of how the book came about - "The triumph of irresponsibility over reason ..."

Volume is in unread condition (a sad way for a book to live). It is part biography, part recipe book, and at all times a highly witty account, of a quality "sufficient to restore Joan Collins to virginity". Hotchner is a close friend of the former movie star who was influential in creating the Newman Charitable Foundation.

At the back of the book are a handful of recipes created by the authors, the kind that posh cowboys might eat: shrimp and sausage creole; chicken with orange salsa butter; and chicken Cassidy kebabs with Sundance orzo pilaf (serves 6).

A beautiful and extremely scarce book that deserves to be read again and again, or simply treasured foreveer.

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
