Edited by Charles Holme, with text by Ernest G Halton, published by The Studio, London Paris and New York 1915. First edition collection of drawings of European street scenes and buildings by Samuel Prout (1783-1852) a master of architectural painting and drawing. Works such as these established his reputation and were much admired by John Ruskin.

65 plates including a colour frontispiece with tissue guard; also includes a facsimile letter by Prout dated 1843 (foxed). Large format (30x21 cms), blue cloth binding with gilt lettering to front and spine and bevelled boards. Blue end papers and tops to pages gilt. Some discolouration to paper consonant with age, and foxing to end papers, but all plates sharp and clean. Slight bumping to spine and cover corners. Lengthy pen inscription from donor in pen inside front cover dated Easter Day 1915 and including quotations from Shakespeare and Wordsworth. Overall a nice clean, tight copy in very good condition for its age.
