Publisher: Edmund Ward, Leicester, c 1944-45. Hardback, 63 pages, no dustjacket, many charming illustrations in colour by John R. Bell. Cover, in red pictorial boards with off-white spine and cream titling, is in fair condition commensurate with age with general shelfwear to edges, bumping to spine extremities and corners, some grubby marking to spine and front edges and back, some fading to back. Firm overall and cover illustration still bright and clear. Internally the book is in fair condition with lovely bright illustrations, some foxing and grubby marks to endpapers. Inscription in pen on front endpaper (14th July 1945 To Eric from Mummy and Daddy), some grubby finger marks on many pages (no doubt indicating the book was loved by young Eric!). Binding has loosened somewhat with stitching exposed on p 16, however the binding is still holding all pages together reasonably firmly. The many colour illustrations by John R. Bell are very charming, unusual and attractive as per the photos. Overall an honest copy of a rare and charming children's book from the 1940s.
