Product description

The Arabian Nights, in five volumes, translated by the Reverend Edward Forster, with engravings from pictures by Robert Smirke, R.A. Published by William Miller, 1802. Five volumes complete, hardback, quarter bound, with gilt lettering and raised bands on spine in six panel, decorative gilt design on front board, gilt edging to pages. Volume I has former owner's signature on front endpaper. All volumes have green endpapers, each volume has former owner's bookplate inside front cover. Binding generally good.

Vol. 1 pp385, spine complete but torn from body of book at top for one inch or so. and again at the bottom. bumping on cover corners, some wear and tear. Front hinge has slight damage, foxing throughout. Contents include an Advertisement and Preface, missing pages vii - x; postscript, a poem to the author of the Arabian Nights and contents of volume 1, and directions for placing the plates in all 5 volumes. Notes to the stories in volume 1 are at the end of the volume.

Vol. II pp 432, spine complete but badly torn at top, bumping on corners, some wear and tear on covers. Old repair to title page and back hinge torn. Contents include contents list and notes to the stories in this volume.

Vol. III, pp 405, spine and boards show slight signs of wear and tear, some foxing throughout. Contents include contents list and notes to the stories in this volume.

Vol. IV, pp 461, spine slightly torn, boards show signs of wear and tear with bumping on corners, some foxing. Contents include contents list and notes to stories in this volume.

Vol. V. pp 474. spine slightly torn at top, boards showing signs of wear and tear, bumping on corners, old damage to front board.
