"The Beauties of the Bosphorus" and "The Danube"

Product description

A Set of two volumes published for the proprietors by George Virtue, 26 Ivy Lane, undated. The first volume consists of "The Beauties of the Bosphorus by Miss Pardoe, Illustrated in a series of Views of Constantinople and its environs from original drawings by W.H.Bartlett." (164 pages). The second volume is "The Danube by William Beattie, M.D. Illustrated in a series of views taken expressly for this work by W.H.Bartlett, Esq." ( 236 pages). Tissue guarded plates.

In good used condition for age, bound in blue cloth with embossed design, and blind dentelle. Gold embossed designs front and back and gold design and lettering to spine. Gold edges to block. Boards show shelfwear commensurate with age, corners are bumped and scuffed. Blocks are tight, some foxing to pages.

The volume on the Bosphorus has internal cracking of the hinge at the endpapers at the front and a cracked hinge at the back of the book, after the final page, and prior to the four pages of advertisements.
The volume on the Danube has a loose tissue guard at the frontispiece, and hinges cracking at end papers internally.
