The Botanist

£350.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

This beautiful book is bound in green leather with elaborate decorative tooling to the front and back of the cover. The book has traditional marbled end papers. A lovely wool tapestry of roses has been inlaid as a panel on the front of the book. The tapestry is in very good condition and still showing vibrant colours. There is some open cracking to the top front left hand edge of the spine which has decorative raised bands along its length. The binding is sound overall but the front end paper is all but loose. The cover of this copy appears to have been specially customised as a gift, making it quite unique in its presentation. There is a gilt inscription to the back of the book dated 1842 and although the book is not dated it is believed it was published in 1837. Previous owner's inscriptions appear at the front of the book. Containing detailed descriptions of a wide variety of plants the book also includes lovely colour plates of the plants listed and also fine black and white botanical line drawings to illustrate the text. The plate for Salvia Patens is missing.
