The Channings and its sequel Roland Yorke by Mrs Henry Wood published Macmillan 1899 & 1901

£8.50

Product description

Publisher: Macmillan & Co, London, 1899 and 1901. Two hardbacks, 454 and 469 pages. No dustjackets. Both have olive green cloth covers with gilt titling to spine and black titling to front. The Channings is in good condition for its age with a very sound and clean cover with a little shelfwear and light bumping to extremities. Internally it is in generally good, clean and firm condition with some tanning to pages, a few foxing spots and a neat inscription, dated Sept 1901, on front endpaper. Roland Yorke (the sequel to The Channings) is in fair condition for its age with generally clean and bright cover which has a surface spilt down the rear edge of the spine cover (but board still attached). Internally it is in generally clean and bright condition with light tanning, a little foxing and a neat inscription (dated Nov 1902) on the front endpaper. However, the hinge has weakened and split at the front endpaper exposing the binding (but board still fairly securely attached) - otherwise the binding is firm. Two great novels by the great 'sensation' novelist, author of the classic 'East Lynne' of 1861, which, along with 'The Woman in White' by Wilkie Collins and 'Lady Audley's Secret' by Mary Elizabeth Braddon, founded the whole Victorian 'sensation novel' genre.
