The Golden Treasury of Ancient Greek Poetry

£45.00

Product description

An anthology put together by Sir Robert Samuel Wright MA, who combined a distinguished legal career with mastery of the classics.

Oxford Clarendon Press series. Hardback with no DJ. Leather binding with gilt border to front and back, and gilt lettering and design on the spine cover. There are some stains and soiling of the outside of the covers. All text block edges are gilt. Marbled end pages. Book plate on reverse of front cover. Some foxing of the end pages. Some staining and foxing to the hinge at page 350-351 and some marks (which look like rubbings out) to those 2 pages and the preceding page 349.

The text is in Greek with annotation at the rear of the book in English. There are extensive additional handwritten annotations. As far as ascertainable these are in pencil. There are also some notes in pencil on the rear end pages, one recording a 50 mile walk in March 1878 in “6 hours, 16 m 47sec”.

Clearly a much loved and closely studied book
