The National Comprehensive Family Bible. The Holy Bible with an abridgement of the commentaries of Scott and Henry, and containing also many thousand critical and explanatory notes selected from the standard authors of Europe and America. The Commentaries condensed and the whole edited by the late Dr. Rev. John Eadie, with a series of coloured plates from original paintings by F. Goodall, Miss Gow, and P.R. Morris and lithographic transfers of steel plates from pictures by eminent masters, coloured maps, family register and portrait album, etc. Published by Thorne & Co. Undated but late nineteenth century, approximately 1880. Inscription in front dates from 1905. The family details, found after the preface, are filled in from 1884. instead of family portraits there are more religious texts on the first page.
Main body of book has gilt edges to pages, Hinges are intact. Covers are intact but front hinge has broken completely leaving front board separated from body of book. Spine is damaged and has come loose from front of book. It is intact with 4 raised bands. gilt lettering and blind stamping. Front cover is leather bound with stains and signs of use but has an attractive inlaid design with gilt lettering. Brass corners are in good condition with a delicate inlaid pattern.
Inside front cover and on front endpaper there are religious texts, numbering over 40 in total. Some foxing to endpapers.
