Blue leather bound with raised bands to the spine. Boards have margins marked with double gilt lines and crossed arrow symbols in each corner. The spine is heavily decorated in gilt which is now dull and faded. Some small amount of wear to all exposed edges, particularly the top of the spine. The bottom corners are bumped.

Hinges and binding in extremely good condition, little evidence of use.

The page ends are marbled on all edges, the endpapers are also marbled.

There is an award plate dated 1872 attached to the front pastedown.

Little sign of foxing except on the endpapers.
