This beautiful 'deluxe' edition of Tolkien's trilogy would make the perfect gift for any Lord of the Rings fan - and is a real space-saver, occupying only one book's width on a shelf, compared to the three volumes of the more usual editions. Published in 1969, once Allen & Unwin were confident that the books were now popular across continents (their success in the United States having prompted a matching success in the UK), it is a volume to enhance any library.
Our copy is in its original black slipcase, which is somewhat worn, with various marks, loss of colour, and frank damage at one corner. The book itself, however, is almost without blemish - very slight fading along spine angles, and one or two very tiny whitish marks on front and back - and inside is immaculate, appearing unread. It includes the 2 large folded maps of Rohan and MiddleEarth. Page edges are mottled in pale greenish-blue.
