A very rare book in the UK. Ninth edition, 1870, published in Buffalo, Ohio. Half bound with dark brown leather spine and corners edged with gilt, and brown cloth boards. The spine has surface scuffing with wear at the base and chipping at the top; titles and decoration in gilt. The corners have edge scuffing and one is worn through to the card. The boards have superficial watermarking. Marbled endpapers; the first three pages at the front are detached. Owner name in pencil on the reverse of the first free endpaper. There is a water mark at the top right corner of the Preface which continues through most of the text block but gradually reducing in size and becoming less and less noticeable. Occasional foxing. A lovely old book for anyone interested in horses and their training. The full title is ‘The New System of Educating Horses Including Instructions on Feeding, Watering etc. also How Shoeing Should Be Done; with Simple Practical Treatment for Diseases. Illustrated Including a Large Number of Valuable Recipes Not Before Published.’ There is even a section on Teaching Tricks to your horse.

Oxfam Bookshop Lymington

Lymington is on the South coast, bordering on the New Forest National Park which was created as a Royal Forest in 1079 by William the Conqueror, and first recorded as 'Nova Foresta' in the Doomsday Book in 1086. Our Oxfam Shop at 73, The High Street is in a lovely Georgian building, the tallest in Lymington. The elegant Georgian buildings lining the wide main street were built mostly for merchants in the local salt trade. The famous Saturday market brings the town to life with its variety of stalls. The area is renowned for outdoor pursuits, including camping, sailing, windsurfing, and surfing, as well as forest walks and horse riding.
