The Old Clockmakers Of Yorkshire

£24.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Published in 1946, this first edition is thoroughly recommended for inclusion on the bookshelf of all horologists. The book is extensively illustrated with black and white diagrams and full-page photographs. Contents include: Preface; List of Illustrations; A Note on Clockwork; Clockmaking in Wensleydale; Clockmaking in Craven; Clockmaking in Halifax; Clockmaking in York; John Harrison; The Passing of a Craft; List of Former Yorkshire Makers. This is a rare volume whose original blue-card covers have been respined rather clumsily; there is no dustjacket. There is a square sticker mark on the front cover; the covers are also grubby and faded. The pages are yellowing throughout, the page edges are dirty and worn, and the top corner of the Preface page has been torn away. The flyleaf has a vertical yellowing stripe where it joins the spine: possibly a remnant of the original binding. That said, this is a fascinating book and a valuable reference resource.

Oxfam Bookshop Hexham

We relocated in January 2016 to larger premises and are now able to offer a wider range of books and music (you can come and check out your musical choices in our listening booth and also find out a lot more about Oxfam's work.). We have a new local interest section, more space for history and have extended our craft and arts offer.  We also sell cards, fair trade food and ethical cleaning and beauty products.

Hexham is a market town situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley - the ideal stopping off point before exploring Hadrian's Wall, Chesters, Housesteads and the Temple of Mithras at Carrawburgh.
