Large black leather bound hardback, no DJ. pp 960 but back endpapers and final page missing. Black boards with gilt lettering and blind stamping to front and spine. Gilt patterned edging to front and back, worn in places. Rubbed at side of spine and edges. Gilt edging to pages. Front endpages loose and some early pages damaged but complete. Former owner's signature dated 1860 on front endpaper. B/W picture of John Bunyan opposite title page. Front and back hinges cracked. Foxing throughout. Second title page: Bunyan's Allegorical Works, or the Pilgrim's Progress, and the Holy War; together with His Grace Abounding, Divine Emblems, and other poems: edited with notes, original and selected, and a life of Bunyan, by the Rev. Charles H.H.Wright with numerous illustrations by H. Castelli and G. Bartsch. Published by James Hagger (undated). colour plates and b/w illustrations throughout.
