Publisher: Cassell, Petter and Galpin, London 1880. Hardback, red cloth boards, approx 10" x 7", 789 pages with many full page illustrations in colour and b&w by H C Selous, Priolo and Friston. Cover, in red substantial cloth boards with gilt titling to front and spine, is in good sound condition for its age with just a little bumping to bottom of spine and some fading/discolouration to spine and some light fading and marks to boards, but no tears or significant marking. Book itself is in good condition commensurate with age with firm, tight binding, some foxing throughout, some light tanning to endpapers and a small repaired tear on front flyleaf. There is a very neat prize inscription in pen on front endpaper stating that the book was presented to Miss Fanny Dean at Ladies College, Beach Lawn, Leamington in December 1880. A truly handsome old edition of this wonderful book with sumptuous illustrations in colour from drawings by H.C Selous and many wood engravings by Selous, Priolo and Friston.
