The Poetical Works of Geoffrey Chaucer - First Edition

£200.00

Product description

This six volume set of the Poetical Works of Geoffrey Chaucer was printed in 1890 and is a first edition in very good condition for the age. It doesn't have dust jackets but the green cloth-bound boards are clean with only a few marks and have gilt title on the front and spine of each. The binding is quite loose and there is foxing to the first few pages of each volume. FFEP on which there is a name and the date 1908 in each volume and FBEP. Volume five appears water-damaged with a mark to two of the pages. The spines are shelf worn and the pages are uncut, to the point that some of the pages are still attached to each other at the top and sides. Some of the pages are dog-eared but all are present and clearly legible.

This set includes a memoir by Sir Harris Nicholas and is edited by Richard Morris LL.D., member of the Council of the Philosophical Society, Editor of "Specimens of Early English".

The first volume includes Life of Chaucer, Notes to Life, Chaucer's Pronunciation and Scheme of the Order of the Canterbury Tales among other writings, while the other volumes contain Chaucer's works.

From "the Knight's Tale" to "Aetas Prima" with all known verses in between. A lovely book for anyone who knows of Chaucer!
