Product description

Publisher: Kegan Paul, Trench & Co, London, 1884. Hardback, 223 pages, tissue guarded frontispiece and many illustrations throughout in b&w. Attractive gilt page block edges. No dustjacket. The lovely pictorial cover, in green and black cloth, bevelled covers with gilt titling to spine and front and lovely illustrations and decorations in pre-Raphaelite style to front and spine, is in generally good condition commensurate with age with a little fading, a closed tear along top section of spine edge, some light bumping to spine extremities and light shelfwear to edges and a few small marks to back. Internally the book is in generally decent and firm condition commensurate with age with light tanning to pages and a little foxing here and there. Neat inscription in front (with faint date below of April 1885). Hinges weakened at front and rear endpapers, exposing some webbing but have not separated. Small section of ffep has been neatly cut out to display the owner inscription and half-title page removed. Pages 107 to 110 are loose and pages 91 to 94 are partially loosened. The text pages and the many outstanding illustrations are clean and clear. Overall, a decent and sound copy of an exceptional book with a host of beautiful illustrations within the text.
