The Surgeon Dentist or Treatise on the Teeth

£120.00

Product description

The Surgeon Dentist or Treatise on the Teeth: In which is seen the means used to keep them clean and healthy, of beautyfying them, of repairing their loss, and remedies for their diseases and those of the gums and for accidents which may befall the other parts in their vicinity; with observations and reflections on several special cases.

Originally written by Pierre Fauchard, surgeon dentist in Paris. Translated from the 2nd edition 1746 by Lilian Lindsay, Butterworth & Co. Publishers Ltd.

Hardback book with no dust jacket in fair condition considering its age. Cover is clean with little wear. Top and bottom of spine is worn but otherwise in good condition. Internal pages dust-worn and aged, with foxing on the fore edges but otherwise intact with no damage throughout.

This book has held the first position among dental literature for over two centuries. Its author has been acclaimed as the "Father of Dentistry" for almost as long a period. This is the first time the entire two volumes of "Le Chirurgien Dentist" has been translated into English. Many of the ideas introduced in the book were totally new to dentistry.

An interesting read for any student of dentistry or history. Pierre Fauchard engraved in his books many of his inventions of instruments made for oral surgery, such as the obturator and the now famous dentist's drill.
