The War Illustrated (6 volumes) 1914-17

£80.00

Product description

Published between August 1914 and August 1917 by the Amalgamated Press in 156 weekly instalments, bound into 6 volumes. Hardback. Maroon cloth board covers with black lettering and illustration on front cover and gilt lettering on spine. Some wear and fading of covers. Corners bumped. Binding still secure. Inside pages are clean but darkening with age. In quite good condition overall.

'A Pictorial Record of the Conflict of the Nations' edited by J. A. Hammerton. Approx 2,000 b&w illustrations in each volume.

These fascinating books allow you to trace the progress of World War I on a week-by-week basis over four years. It's all pro-British propaganda, of course, and not objective history (plus it doesn't include the final year of the war) but it gives a real insight into how this dreadful conflict was presented to the general public at the time. Volume One begins with an introduction by H.G. Wells.

One hundred years after these events, this rare six-volume set is a real bargain for military historians and anyone whose family members were caught up in the conflict.
NB These books weigh 11 kg and incur an additional postage charge.
