Two books bound together: David Brown, Edinburgh, 1823, and privately published, Dumfries, 1822, First thus. Hardback, the two books are bound in chestnut half calf with marbled paper covered boards and marbled end-papers; the spine has five raised bands with gilt decor between and the title in gilt on a claret label; 12mo., 132 pp and 72 pp with fold-out map bound in before title page of first book. The volume was bound by W.F Johnstone, 30 Glasgow Street, Maxwelltown, Dumfries, and consists of "Travels in Prince Edward Island in the years 1820-21" and "A Series of Letters descriptive of Prince Edward Island, addressed to the Rev. John Wightman", both by Walter Johnstone. Book condition: Fair, the spine is worn, a small portion is missing from the bottom and the top is strained; the corners are scuffed. The binding is firm with sound hinges; there is some browning to the title pages but the rest appear to be clear and there are no inscriptions. The map of of Prince Edward Island is complete with no wear on the creases. This an exceptionally rare edition.
