Undine - Illustrated by Arthur Rackham

£90.00

Product description

Undine - Illustrated by Arthur Rackham
William Heinemann, Seventh impression 1925. pp136.

Originally written in 1811 by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué. This copy is translated from the German by WL Courtney and wonderfully illustrated by Arthur Rackham.
Blue/Green cloth covers with blue image of a weeping girl. Spine is sunned but saved by elegant piscine images. There is very slight fraying and discolouration to the corners and spine ends and some very light chemical degradation to rear cover. Bindings tight.

Pastedowns have green drawings of goblins and monsters, bearing down on a sorrowful Undine. Small open one inch tear to inner hinge. Both pastedowns moderately foxed and tanned. Neat bookplate of previous owner to front flyleaf.
Nice colour frontispiece, framed in beige and with small crease to corner.

Block in outstanding condition, all with the lightest of tanning on heavy floury paper. Fourteen further tipped in colour plates (dated 1909) tell of the elemental life of a bewitching young girl, who did eventually find her true love.

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
