The first five volumes of a long 23 volume series. They comprise the following: 1: Southern Europe; 2: France and Switzerland; 3: Austria-Hungary, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands; 4: British Isles; 5: N E Atlantic and islands, Scandanavia, Russia-in-Europe. The series is undated but was published between 1876 and 1894 and offers a highly detailed review of the towns, peoples, fauna and physical features of each area. Each volume has many engravings of landscapes and local inhabitants; also numerous coloured maps and diagrams. Many of them are full-page illustrations protected by tissue guards to avoid offset.
Condition: these are bright copies which have retained their freshness to an amazing degree over a hundred years: green cloth with heavy, decorative gilt & black tooling. A very handsome set. The backstrips are attractive with no wear at head or tail. All boards are clean and good-looking with very minor scratching on the backs two. No bumping at corners. All joints and hinges very sound. Page bindings strong throughout. Endpapers dark brown. All edges gilt. There is foxing on the backs of some illustrations but none in the text. 2,517 pages. Each volume has its own index.

On our first floor you will find Bradford's largest selection of second hand books with fantastic fiction, academic and children's titles as well as a great collection of antiquarian books and collectables. We also have a large music department stocking a wide range a CDs, DVDs and a great choice in vinyl.
