It is illustrated with a selection of colour and b&w reproductions which includes most of the paintings and drawings referred to in the text.

Luke Herrmann (b. 1932) read History at the University of Oxford (1952-55) before becoming Assistant Editor of the Illustrated London News. From 1956-67 he worked in the Department of Western Art at the Ashmolean Museum before taking a lectureship at University of Leicester in 1967, eventually becoming Chair of the Department of History of Art. Upon his retirement from the University of Leicester in 1986 he continued to contribute to the field as an independent art historian, through publications and public lectures.

Weight 1.3 kilos

CONDITION. Some discolouration of the bottom corner of some pages of the first half of the book. Dust jacket appears to have slight water damage top edge front/back but without detriment to the pages themselves. Moderate foxing inside. Clipped DJ. Foxing on the first and last end-papers plus light foxing on out-side edges. Red boards are clean and bright. Spine with intact gold gilt lettering. Clean bright pages. No inscriptions or notations. (see photos for reference).
