Chinese Jade Carving - S. Howard Hansford

£10.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

Professor S. Howard Hansford was Emeritus Professor of Chinese Art and Archaeology at the University. This book is his classic monograph on jade carving and was influential in encouraging the study of jade both in the East and the West. In it he provides an account of the origin and evolution of the techniques of Chinese jade carving. As part of this Hansford explores such interesting topics as the mineralogy of jade and the working of the stone by the Maoris of New Zealand, which have helped him to draw inferences as to the methods of the neolithic Chinese jade carvers. The text is accompanied by a set of black and white illustrative plates.
