Daumier 1808-1879 (French text)

£9.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

This book is in very good condition. The cover is in very good condition, showing only a little corner wear. Internally the pages are clean, tight and unmarked. This is a French book with all text in French.

Daumier has long been remembered only as a cartoonist who worried the powerful or the satirical chronicler of the customs of the bourgeoisie of the last century. In fact, the talent of this artist, who has approached with equal felicity painting, drawing, sculpture and lithography, transcends classification. Endowed with an extraordinary sense of observation, he endeavoured to paint the most ordinary daily things to give them a universal dimension. Daumier did not write, spoke very little and died, almost blind, to indifference. His marginal place in the history of French art and the late recognition of his work justify the great retrospective that is now devoted to him. This accompanying work proposes to show in all its scope the creative genius of an artist whom Baudelaire considered "one of the most important men ... of modern art."
