Pieces of Sea Fall Through the Stars - Georges Levantis

WAS £15.00 £9.00

Product description

Georges Levantis was born in the UK of Greek parentage. After leaving the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London,he accepted an Artist Placement Group residency with Ocean Fleets of Liverpool, taking him to Japan, Africa and South East Asia in 1974/5. As a result Levantis created the installation Pieces of Sea Fall through the Stars in 1976, made from canvas, paint, bamboo etc. – materials acquired in different ports. The installation is a kind of response to the environment that Levantis encountered on the open sea with the heightened significance of the cycle of day and night put together as a three-dimensional tactile diagram. Shown only a few times, it represents the boat’s confined space as a space of isolation.

This rare book documents and illustrates that work, through a combination of black and white photographs and text by the author.
