Product description

Rome, painted by Alberto Pisa text By M.A.R Tuker & Hope Malleson. Published by Adam & Charles Black London. 1905 first edition. Hardback book. 267 pages with 70 lovely, tissue guarded full page colour plates. The beautifully decorated blue, black and gold cloth boards are in a fair condition commensurate with age. There are two depictions of eagles sitting on top of staffs / banners on the front board. The spine has gilt titling and decorations. The spine and edges of boards are significantly faded but are in decent and sound condition with some shelfwear and light bumping to corners and spine extremities. There are a few white scuff marks to rear board. Internally, the book is in good and tight condition for its age with some light tanning to pages and some foxing spots to page block edges and endpapers and here and there to text pages. Top right corner of the front free endpaper has been torn off but otherwise there are no tears, creases or significant marks. The 70 beautiful tissue guarded colour plates (by Alberto Pisa) are all in good, clean condition. Overall this is a very sound copy of this beautifully written and stunningly illustrated 1905 volume on Rome.
