Scottish Wool Cloth Sample Book

£50.00

Product description

A rare copy of an impressive collection of traditional woollen cloth samples, published for the Scottish Woollen Publicity Council in 1969.

The book begins with a map of places in Northern Scotland and the Isles where the fabrics were woven, also airports, followed by an informative section about the Scottish Woollen Industry at that time, with clear text on clean pages and precise b/w photographs.
The next part of the sample book comprises explanatory text on the left, facing a sample of the relevant cloth on the right, with either a printed diagram of the design or a photograph of someone modelling a garment made from the specific cloth (see images). At the end of the book is a useful glossary of terms (e. g. Knop Yarn, London Shrinking and Saxony), finally a list of the firms who supplied the fabrics and a list of the advantages of Pure New Wool.

Aside from minimal bumps to the top corner and lower spine end of the front board, all is in superb condition.
