The Lady Isabella Waterwheel (The Laxey Wheel).

£29.99

Product description

Large paperback book about the history of the Lady Isabella Waterwheel at Laxey on the Isle of Man. The paperback cover folds over at the leading edges, there is some wear along the upper and lower edges of the cover and both ends of the spine are bumped. There is some foxing to the first and last few pages but the remainder of the interior of the book is clean, bright and tightly bound. The book includes some fold out maps and drawings, technical data about the wheel and its surrounding area, facsimiles of various documents about the history and construction of the wheel which was constructed in 1854 and is thought to be the largest ever built, it is 22 metres in diameter. It was built to pump water off the lead mines. The wheel was painted every year but with alternate colours, one year it would be painted with lead red (vermillion) and the following year with iron oxide (crimson). Written and published by Anders Jespersen of Virum, Denmark.
