The book is in good condition. The binding is sound. There are a couple of small chips on the front cover and a little bumping, including a crease of the bottom corner of the back cover (and a small mark) and the last couple of pages. The last page is a little grubby.
At the time of publication Professor Toulmin was Director of the National Fairground Archive at the University of Sheffield Library and Chair in Early Film and Popular Entertainment. She worked with Blackpool Council as Creative Advisor for Showzam: Blackpool’s Festival of Circus, Magic, and New Variety.
In Winter Gardens, Blackpool Professor Toulmin covers its history as a Palace of Amusement, the Floral Hall, the Pavilion Theatre, the Empress Ballroom, the Opera House, the Spanish Hall Suite, and Olympia; the uses to which the building was put, and those who appeared there, artistes and others.
