( full title is " The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde ", by Robert Louis Stevenson , read by the late, great Tim Piggott-Smith )
"Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde" was Stevenson's compelling exploration of the dual nature of mankind : civilized on the surface, but with the tremendous potential for evil lurking beneath. Mr Hyde is the alter ego of Dr Jekyll, a seemingly respectable man who carries within him, the suppressed urge to carry out wicked deeds.
In the body of Mr Hyde, Jekyll is liberated from social convention and from moral restraint, but such freedom draws him deeper and deeper into corruption, violence and, finally, murder. Stevenson's story of the seduction as well as the repulsion of evil, is so rich in atmosphere, mystery and horror, that it has remained hugely popular since its first publication.
