Alf Francis, Racing Mechanic 1948-58

£24.99

Product description

This is the story of Alf Francis' life as a motor racing mechanic in the years following the Second World War. Alf Francis' story - as told to and written by journalist Peter Lewis - contains abrasive opinion, technical specifications and surprises for those who view motor racing in the late 1940s and early 1950s with rose-tinted spectacles.

The book includes Francis' racing with Stirling Moss, Rob Walker's racing team and Cooper-Climax cars, descriptions of how to build racing cars, repair and race preparation, as well as descriptions of Moss' victory in the 1958 Argentine Grand Pix and Maurice Trintignant's 1958 Monaco GP win - both with the F1 Cooper-Climax team.

The book has green cloth boards and gilt titles and, apart from minor age soiling and foxing marks to the upper text block edge and minor spine end bumps, is in very good condition. The illustrated jacket is in fine condition with only a few light surface marks.

Contains 30 b/w photograph illustrations, and each caption in itself tells an absorbing story.
