Hardback; 145 x 205 mm; blue boards with gold titles on spine; 191 pages. Original clipped dust jacket.

The book is in fair condition. The binding is sound though the book is slightly bowed. The dust jacket has some closed tears, and is a little grubby with tanning and foxing internally. Page end tanning and foxing, with some tanning and foxing internally. The recto of the front free endpaper is annotated in blue ink “To John with love & Best Wishes from Brenda Christmas 1956”.

“Golden Wings discusses the British Air Transport Auxiliary, a program that allowed women to serve as ferry pilots and to assist the RAF during WWII. The program was one of a kind and served as the model for the WASP program in the United States.”

The book was written not long after the end of World War II when memories will have been fresh and records available. The photographs in the book will be of interest. Nearly all the women pilots are named, and one of the photographs was taken by Lee Miller for Vogue.
