Silver Spoon: Being Extracts from the Random Reminiscences of Lord Grantley [1954]

£10.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Published in 1954 by Hutchinson.
Includes two black and white photographs of Lord Grantley and foreword by Alan Wood, together with a useful index. Bound in royal blue canvas with gilt lettering on the spine and gilt coat of arms on the front board. Top edges have been dyed with blue ink to match the cloth binding.

An autobiography of Richard Norton, later known as Lord Grantley (1892-1954) documenting his life from his childhood cocooned in luxury but marred by unpleasant schooling experiences to his time fighting with the Grenadier Guards in WWI, after joining in 1914. After the Armistice of 1918, Norton became a typical Mayfair "man about town", spending money and finding himself in considerable debts. Despite having gambled away £25,000 on his honeymoon, at a time when a housemaid would've earned around £100 per year, he entered the world of banking. After banking, he became involved in the British Film Industry at Elstree, Denham, later Pinewood.

Good condition. Boards are slightly bowed and there is mild foxing found on both end-papers. Boards are bright and clean and the binding is sound and the pages are clean. Dust-jacket is missing. An inscription in blue ink is found on the front end-paper reading "J. R. Drysdale, 27th Feb 1954".
