The Other Oxford: The Life and Times of Frank Gray and His Father

£7.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

SPECIAL HALF PRICE £6.99 from £16.99

Hardcover complete with dust sleeve. Published in 1970, the book is showing signs of wear especially to spine and edges but the inside of the book is of good quality for its age and is free from any markings or notes.

"Almost unbelievable goings-on in local government in Oxford."

"Gray and Morris were running a totally illegal system of public transport. The City Corporation applied for their arrest and Morris escaped thanks to Gray's influence and reckless leadership.
Frank Gray, whose father had overthrown the Liberal Party, went on to win Oxford back for Liberalism only to be unseated on petition.
These were some of the giants in a community distinguished for the richness and unconventionality of its personalities. Their exploits were often hilarious but the total picture is a serious contribution to our knowledge of modern England."
